Identification & Implementation

Identifying best practices is dependent on the institutional mission, goals and the nature of the patrons making use of the library.

Based on the works of Jotwani (2008), there are certain guidelines that can be used to identify and implement good practices. These guidelines state that good practice should:
  • be dynamic and revisited periodically;
  • recognize diversity and cultural and historical contexts;
  • not lead to dominance of one specific view or approach; and
  • promote quality of performance.
It is important to note that when thinking of developing and implementing best practices, one should consider how pliable they are. This means, ensuring that the practices can be implemented within various contexts within the library.
